NorwAI meeting 11-12 August 2021
The Norwegian Research Center for AI Innovation had a gathering at Gulla on August 11-12. There were some very interesting discussions about the NorwAI Innovate conference in October, and some excellent food prepared by Britt G. Moen and Solveig Haglund.
Gulla fly
Fraser Sandeman visited Gulla Gaard in the spring of 1892. Fraser was an avid sports fisherman and came up with his own fly, the Gulla fly, that was particularly effective in the Surna pools around Gulla. In his book, Angling Travels in Norway from 1895, he included a picture of this innovative and very colorful fly.
We have now been able to recreate and test the old Gulla fly. Thanks to Øystein Økter, we have an exact copy of the Gulla fly on display that was made following the old recipe from Fraser Sandeman. Thanks to Dag Midgård and Arne Jørgen Berre we also have a set of modern Gulla flies that we are now using in Surna. Arne Jørgen hooked the first salmon using this fly on August 11.
Sandeman' wagon
Fleetwood Sandeman's old horse wagon is still intact. Hopefully, we will have it in perfect conditions at Gulla next year.
